Please see below for the latest updates on our response to the Covid-19 outbreak.
April 28, 2020 10:00 a.m.
The Sexsmith Shannon Library has resumed curbside pick-up as of April 28, 2020.. Pick up times are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Special arrangements can be made if these times do not work.
Items will be signed out for you and will be on a blue book cart outside the front door of the library for your requested time.
Please remain six feet behind if another person is ahead of you.
Items returned to the Library book drop will be held in isolation until the following Tuesday before being checked in. You may also hang on to your items until the library re-opens.
NO ITEMS WILL BE GIVEN OUT TO ANYONE WHO IS CURRENTLY IN A REQUIRED 14-DAY QUARANTINE OR TO SOMEONE WHO HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19.
If you would like extra material selected for you, please call the Library at 780-568-4333 and staff will work with you to determine what is currently available to meet your needs.
When placing holds, please pay particular attention to whether the item is "in" and located in Sexsmith Library. Only a few Peace Library System libraries are loaning their items out and shipping is every two weeks. There is NO service between library systems at this time.

The library continues to provide as many services as possible during this challenging time. The focus of our efforts has shifted to promoting and assisting with available eResources, as well as membership inquiries. Please follow the library Facebook page to stay informed regarding these services.
At this time, the library is not providing curbside services. This may change as new recommendations are given by the province and Peace Library System.
The library system has renewed all expiring memberships and extended the borrowing periods on all borrowed items until May 15th. As a result, patrons do not need to worry about returning their items until further notice. Please hold on to your items for now, or place them in our book drop if you would prefer to return them. Do not return items if you are feeling unwell. Returns may not be reflected immediately in your online account, as the book drop is only being emptied as necessary.
Staff are working to maintain connection with our customers during this closure and to respond to all requests for assistance. However, due to temporary staff reductions, a single staff member will be responsible for all communications going forward. Please bear with us as we navigate this new situation. Don’t hesitate to call with any questions you have - we will do our best to assist with questions as efficiently as possible.
Updates will be posted as new information is made available. All future updates will only be published on the library Facebook page until such time as staff are able to return to their regular positions.
Stay safe, stay home, and be ready for an epic party when the library reopens!

Chairperson’s Statement Regarding Covid-19
To prevent the spread of Covid-19, it’s been mandated that libraries close their doors to the public. Our library closed its doors on Monday, March 16, 2020, while library staff continued to provide curb side pickup to those who called and made arrangements for the past week.
Due to recommendations by the provincial library branch, the board has unanimously decided to shut down curb side deliveries as of March 20, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.
Phone calls will continue to be received at the library to assist all patrons with numerous online services available through their library membership cards.
The Shannon Library’s website and Facebook page will continue to have updates highlighting what resources are accessible online. Please don’t hesitate to call if you need help. We have wonderful, dedicated staff ready to help you!
As was said in a previous post, we hope to resume regular library services when we can but will be following all relevant recommendations laid out by the provincial and federal governments for our library and staff.
We’re all doing our best for the well-being of our community. Wishing you the best of health, and the best of time spent with your families. Hold them all a little tighter as we weather this interesting time in our history.
Rhonda Maki, Board Chair
on behalf of the
Town of Sexsmith Library Board

Due to the continuing risk posed to patrons and staff of the Shannon Municipal Library, and in keeping with both provincial recommendations and the decisions of many libraries and library systems across the province of Alberta, we will be DISCONTINUING our curb side pickup service, effective 5:00 pm, Friday March 20th.
All held items that are not collected before Friday evening will remain on our holds shelf until such time as library services can resume.
The Peace Library System staff are working to renew all library memberships that are set to expire in the next two months, as well as to adjust the due dates of all checked out items. This is being done in an effort to help maintain access to eresources for all of our patrons.
If you have any questions, or if you are currently blocked from accessing your online account, please contact the library at 780-568-4333. Staff will respond to any inquiries as quickly as possible.

The Shannon Municipal Library will be closed to the public starting Monday, March 16th in response to the current Covid-19 outbreak. This precautionary step is being taken to protect the safety of our patrons, staff, and community. Library staff will continue to provide as many services as possible while limiting contact with patrons and others.
Any items that you wish to return may be placed in the library book drop outside the front doors. Staff will be working throughout this week to safely check in returned library materials.
If you are feeling sick, please do not return items through the book drop. Call the library instead (780-568-4333) and staff will renew your items or extend your borrowing period as necessary.
For the time being, the library will be offering curb side pickup of materials for those who need to collect holds. Staff may also be able to select local items from our shelves for pickup if time allows. To access this curb side service, please call the library to request a pickup time.
The library will remain closed until further notice. Curb side pickup, staffing, phone hours, and other services may change at any time during the closure. Updates will be posted to our website and Facebook page as developments occur.
If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to send us a Facebook message or call the library. Staff will attempt to respond to all messages within a reasonable time frame.
Please note that requests for curb side pickup will ONLY be dealt with by phone, not through our Facebook page.
We hope to be able to resume regular library services shortly. In the meantime, the library and its staff will be following all relevant recommendations laid out by the provincial and federal governments regarding Covid-19, and we would urge our patrons to do the same.
